Summer unofficially starts with the end of school and the Memorial Day holiday, and the weather draws us to the outdoors. How do your outdoor living spaces look? Are they a little tired and shabby after the long, cold winter, or non-existent? Outdoor rooms can be as beautifully appointed as indoor living spaces. But, where to begin with the myriad of choices of outdoor furnishings?

The furniture is probably the longest-lasting and most-used part of the equation. Choose outdoor furniture with similar style and qualities to the indoor pieces you love. Whether you prefer clean, straight lines, or overstuffed and curvy, the numerous choices make it easy to create a look you love from wrought iron, wood, resin, aluminum, or even recycled plastic.

An outdoor rug defines the seating area and provides a little underfoot comfort.

No seating area is complete without pillows. Today’s outdoor fabric choices are soft and complement any color scheme.

You and your guests will need a place to set down your favorite cold beverages, so don’t forget some fun accent tables.

Light up the night with outdoor table and floor lamps and accent lighting including candles and oil lamps.

An umbrella or outdoor draperies can provide shade, privacy, and make the space feel more intimate.

A few potted plants in complementary colors, and Voila!
